All of these sessions will be taught using a combination of lecture, multi-media (PowerPoint and video), small group work and individual reflection.
Day One: Planning and Goal Setting
Overview: "You miss 100% of the shots you do not take" Wayne Gretzgy. (Hockey legend) "When we fail to plan, we plan to fail" Author Unknown. Clichés? Perhaps. Truisms? Most certainly. Planning and goal setting is an essential tool in every leader's toolbox and one that must be mastered in order to advance in today's high performance business culture. This workshop will provide an overview of the planning and goal setting process and tools you can master as you apply the principles provided.
Outline:
- The role of Mission and Vision in Planning (why plan?)
- Setting Goals that RUMBA (what to plan)
- Principles of Planning (how to plan)
- The Planning Cycle (when to plan)
- Involving the TEAM (who should plan)
Day Two: Coaching for Performance
Overview: Jack Welch said that the people process - recruiting and training the best talent - was the most important thing he did in his 20 years at GE. Ram Charan, Larry Bossidy (authors of the book, "Execution") and a host of others would agree that this is the most important thing you'll do as a leader. During this workshop, we'll take an in-depth look at the people process - recruiting, training, coaching, motivating and evaluating the best people you can find.
Outline: - What is "the People Process"?
- How do I prepare myself for the most important part of my job?
- Recruiting great staff - the selection process overview
- Training people for maximum benefit
- Coaching - what is it and how can I do it well.
- How to not de-motivate your top performers
- How to motivate everyone else.
- Evaluation is a 365-day a year process.
Day Three: Effective Communication
Overview: Communication is the oil that lubricates the machinery of business. Without effective communication, the cogs shift, grind, and eventually disintegrate in a heap of dust and rubble. During this workshop, we'll discover the principles that guide effective communication in the fast-paced, high performance business culture of today, and how you can learn to better manage the way you communicate with the world around you.
