"Corporate recruiters have long surfed the Web to vet potential hires, but now they're also surfing blogs to unearth job candidates, expanding their talent pool and gaining insights they say they can't get from resumes and interviews."

Finding great talent for your company has always been difficult.  The interview never tells the entire story, and references don't either.  According to a new article on CareerJournal.com, recruiters are beginning to look at your blog.  (If you're reading this, you already know what a blog is - but just in case - it's short for "weblog" - an online journal of sorts.)

There are so many common-sense rules about blogging - but here are four...

  1. Don't be "dumb".  It's one thing to be goofy on the weekend, but don't blog about it if you're trying to find a responsible position (even if you're not - blog entries hang around for a long time.)

  2. Write articles.  One of the most incredibly difficult things college students have to learn is how to write well--for whatever reason, they're not learning it in high school anymore.  If you're going to blog, make sure your writing is clear and meaningful.

  3. Write on the topics you really know about - especially if that area is an interest professionally. "If they have a blog or made a comment on one, you can see what their knowledge level truly is because resumes can be full of fluff." - Wal-Mart's Ryan Loken.

  4. Keep it current!  If you're going to blog, you need to commit to at least 3 entries a month to keep people coming back.
